Despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s harsh rhetoric toward NATO allies, a legal withdrawal of the United States from the North Atlantic Alliance remains unlikely due to opposition from Congress. This opinion was expressed on “Pryamyi” TV channel by former President of the Ukrainian World Congress Pavlo Grod.

He believes that the U.S. leader’s emotional statements are creating dangerous turbulence in the global security architecture.
“I do not think this will happen. It would require not only a presidential decision, but also a decision by Congress. And I do not think such a decision would pass,” Grod said.
At the same time, amid Washington’s frustration over the lack of support in operations against Iran, European leaders — including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz — emphasize that the Alliance has no alternative for the security of the continent.
According to Grod, although a real collapse of NATO is not expected, constant criticism from the White House significantly weakens Alliance unity. This, in turn, creates an illusion of Western vulnerability that Russia actively exploits to strengthen its own position.
The honorary consul noted that although most European countries provide logistical support and host troops, public dissatisfaction from the American side only fuels the Kremlin’s aggressive intentions, which sees this as an opportunity to gain an advantage in the war.
