European Commissioner for Defence Andrius Kubilius stated that the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin may give the order to attack one of the NATO countries within the next 2–4 years. He said this at a conference in Vilnius, reports European Pravda.

Kubilius emphasized that the Baltic states remain one of the most likely targets of the Russian Federation. According to him, the intelligence services of Germany, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, and the Baltic states are already warning about the risk that the Kremlin may test the effect of NATO’s Article 5 by 2030.
He stressed that aggression against any Baltic state would automatically mean an attack on the entire Alliance and the European Union. The politician cited an example of a scenario described in the book by German analyst Carlo Masala, “If Russia Wins: A Scenario,” where NATO was unable to agree on a response to the occupation of Narva.
Kubilius also recalled the effect of Article 42(7) of the EU Treaty, which provides for mutual military assistance among member states and, according to some experts, is even stronger than NATO’s Article 5.
