Russian propaganda has launched a new wave of disinformation, attempting to portray NATO member states’ scheduled exercises as preparations for aggression against the Russian Federation. This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation under Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).

According to the Center, Kremlin media outlets, citing “Russian foreign intelligence,” are spreading false claims about the alleged deployment of French troops in Poland and an increase in NATO’s military presence in Romania and the Baltic states. Such reports are presented as “signs of escalation,” though in reality, they refer to planned and publicly announced NATO exercises aimed at strengthening the defense capabilities of the Allies.
“The Kremlin is trying to present the Alliance’s normal activities as preparations for war in order to justify its own aggression. The goal of these attacks is to intimidate the population, undermine trust in NATO, and create an informational cover for potential provocations along the Polish-Ukrainian, Romanian-Moldovan, or Baltic directions,” experts explained.
The Center for Countering Disinformation urged citizens to carefully verify news sources and refrain from sharing information originating from Russian or pro-Russian channels.
In Washington, President Donald Trump’s administration expressed support for the information resilience of NATO allies and emphasized that NATO operates solely for defensive purposes, ensuring Europe’s security in the face of Russian provocations.
