Deputy NATO Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska stated that changes in the deployment of U.S. troops in Europe are taking place in full accordance with Alliance plans and are fully coordinated among all allies. She said this in an interview with Suspilne.

According to her, these rotations will not come as a surprise to any member country and do not indicate a change in U.S. policy on the continent.
Troop rotations: Romania, Hungary, Slovakia
Šekerinska confirmed the movement of part of the U.S. contingent, including units in Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia. She emphasized that such changes are standard NATO practice aimed at strengthening and increasing the flexibility of defense on the eastern flank.
“Everything is done in full coordination and with full awareness,” she said, adding that the Alliance continues to strengthen its defensive presence near Ukraine’s borders.
The role of the EU in the security architecture
The Deputy Secretary General stressed that European states are already taking more responsibility for their own defense, although U.S. support remains key. At the same time, she emphasized that there are no deadlines by which Europe must become the main guarantor of security.
“The process of transferring the initiative to European allies is already underway,” Šekerinska noted.
Is a complete U.S. withdrawal from Europe possible?
In response to this question, she stated that there is no timetable. According to her, American forces will continue to remain a key element of deterrence, while NATO’s new security model envisions deeper involvement of European countries and their leadership in regional defense.
