NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte described his recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump as a “conversation between friends,” however Trump stated that the Alliance had “very disappointed him” and does not respond without pressure.
According to the publication, European allies are forced to balance political disagreements with Washington and the economic consequences of the war, which has already affected energy markets. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said the conflict has effectively become a “transatlantic stress test” for the Alliance.
The article also notes that tensions are increasing amid Trump’s previous statements about a possible review of the U.S. role in NATO and pressure on European allies regarding security and financial commitments.
