German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Putin is unlikely to take place.

“We must address this topic again today, based on the fact that a meeting between President Zelensky and President Putin clearly will not happen,” Merz said during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on August 28.
He emphasized that this situation “differs from what was agreed between U.S. President Donald Trump and Putin last week,” as well as from discussions that took place during the meeting of European leaders with Trump in Washington.
