After Iran’s strike on Israel on June 7, Trump urged Netanyahu to refrain from retaliation. At the same time, during a phone call, the Israeli prime minister insisted that further actions could affect negotiations on a nuclear deal that Washington is trying to promote.
According to a U.S. official, Netanyahu was directly told that the president did not support escalation, but that Israel would act on its own decision.
Later, after consultations with the IDF leadership, the Israeli side informed the White House of its intention to continue strikes on Iran.
Trump himself told Axios that leaders of five countries had called him, urging him to pressure Tel Aviv to stop the escalation.
“I said: ‘Bibi, you better be careful, or you’ll be left all alone very soon,’” the president said.
At the same time, Israeli sources claim that Netanyahu allegedly agreed to reduce the intensity of strikes on the condition that Iran does not continue shelling.
