German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that Europe’s security is only possible through security from Russia, which is why Germany continues to support Ukraine. He declined to assess the likelihood of a scenario in which the Kremlin uses a ceasefire in Ukraine to attack NATO countries but urged preparedness for such a development.

Wadephul emphasized that there is no reason in Germany to reduce defense efforts and noted that if the Russian army achieves lasting success in Ukraine, it would pose a serious threat to NATO. In his view, supporting Ukraine is directly linked to the security of the entire European continent.
Earlier, similar assessments were made by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and Lieutenant General Alexander Zolfrank. Pistorius believes that Russia could attack NATO countries as early as 2029 after restoring its combat capabilities. Zolfrank added that the Kremlin could strike NATO on a small scale even tomorrow, and by 2029, carry out a large-scale attack if it continues rearming.
