⚔️ Former NATO Supreme Commander General Philip Breedlove stated in an interview with Radio NV that russia’s aggression against Ukraine could have been stopped at early stages, but the West did not seize those opportunities.

📅 The war has lasted 11 years, and in the beginning, it was not as large-scale as it is now. Breedlove emphasized that the West did not make this a priority, although there were proposals to prevent escalation.
🌍 According to him, Europe and the USA knew about putin’s plans even before active hostilities began in Donbas after the annexation of Crimea, but they did not take action due to fears of escalation.
🛡️ The general noted that NATO did not approve proposals to deploy forces and patrol airspace, which could have changed the course of events or even prevented the war altogether.
⚖️ Breedlove admitted that at the time no one in NATO, including the USA, was ready to take decisive steps for peace.
🔴 The general explained that putin is not ready to stop fighting because he needs a “victorious” explanation for hundreds of thousands of killed and wounded russian soldiers.
🤝 He emphasized that peace must be just and lasting, not just formal, and stressed that russia must also feel the war’s end.
🕰️ Breedlove added that peace is impossible without concessions from the Kremlin, but currently, russia has no intention to negotiate, is stalling, and wants to force Ukraine to capitulate.
🇺🇦 In his opinion, Ukraine is a great country that bravely resists a superpower and will not surrender.
