Representatives of large Russian businesses believe that continuing the war against Ukraine only deepens the country’s economic problems. In private conversations, they describe a cessation of hostilities as the only realistic way to avoid a serious economic crisis. This is reported by Reuters.

According to the agency, Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the government to look for ways to restore economic growth. At the same time, Reuters’ interlocutors among major business representatives are convinced that no economic measures will be effective without ending the war.

Officially, the Russian authorities attribute the economic difficulties to the Central Bank’s high key interest rate, Western sanctions, and the strengthening of the ruble. However, business leaders point to another key cause — the consequences of the war and regular strikes by Ukrainian drones on strategic facilities.

As Reuters notes, Ukrainian drones have repeatedly attacked oil refineries, chemical industry enterprises, and Russian seaports. As a result, some enterprises were forced to temporarily suspend operations or reduce production capacity.

According to the agency’s estimates, these attacks have significantly affected the operation of Russian industry, particularly facilities that are critical for exporting petroleum products and filling the state budget of the Russian Federation.

Against this backdrop, calls among major business representatives for an early end to the war are becoming increasingly frequent, as its continuation, in their view, only increases pressure on the Russian economy.
