According to her, Russia is weakening and is trying under pressure to change conditions to its advantage, while NATO and European countries are strengthening their defense capabilities every day.
Valtonen emphasized that Russia does not seek peace and refuses to compromise. She stressed that the best step to build trust in peace negotiations would be to stop bombing Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and reduce the risk to civilians.
The minister called on NATO to continue supporting Ukraine in defending its sovereignty and noted that Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance is strategically important, although it will not happen immediately. Valtonen also positively assessed the efforts of the United States and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the peaceful resolution of the conflict.
