Russia remains the main threat to NATO and may seek to restore influence over territories once controlled by the USSR. This was stated by the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

According to him, Moscow continues to build up its military potential despite significant losses in the war against Ukraine.
“Without a doubt, Russia is the number one threat. There is no doubt about it,” he emphasized.
Dragone also stated that, according to NATO estimates, Russia suffers around 35,000 losses per month, which exceeds the Soviet Union’s losses during the entire war in Afghanistan.
He stressed that the West’s strategy is to gradually exhaust Russia’s military and economic resources.
The admiral separately noted Ukraine’s role, which, according to him, has become an important source of combat experience for NATO countries, particularly in countering drones.
Commenting on the position of the United States, Dragone said he sees no signs of Washington leaving the Alliance, although he does not rule out a possible reduction in involvement. At the same time, European countries are gradually strengthening their own defense capabilities.
He also pointed to new security challenges, stressing the need to develop low-cost and effective means of countering mass drone attacks as one of NATO’s key tasks.
