🇺🇦 On May 15, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi proposed a direct meeting with the dictator Vladimir Putin, seizing the initiative. However, the support for Russia’s idea of negotiations by Donald Trump once again highlights the unpredictability of the American leader, even for his own team.

📅 On May 11, Zelenskyi announced that he was waiting for Putin in Istanbul on Thursday, emphasizing that since the start of russia’s full-scale invasion, they had not communicated directly.
💬 “We expect a ceasefire from tomorrow [May 12] – complete and lasting, to provide the necessary basis for diplomacy. There is no point in prolonging the killings. And I will wait for Putin on Thursday in Turkey,” said the Ukrainian president.
❌ Putin rejected the demand from Ukraine and European allies for a 30-day ceasefire, instead offering direct negotiations, likely expecting a meeting between delegations rather than country leaders.
🇺🇸 Despite the position of the “coalition of the willing,” Trump urged Zelenskyi to agree to negotiations “immediately.” In a post on Truth Social, he wrote that such a meeting would help determine if an agreement is possible: “If not, European leaders and the US will act accordingly!”
⚖️ This came after Trump’s special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, supported the European position, highlighting Trump’s unpredictability, even within his administration.
