German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated in the Bundestag that Europe is currently under pressure from several sides but has always grown under such conditions, reports tagesschau.

“We are under pressure from several sides. Europe has always grown when under pressure,” Merz noted. He emphasized that Europe must speak the language of power, applying authoritative politics in international relations.
The Chancellor also mentioned the threat of tariffs from the United States: “Anyone in the world who thinks that we can conduct policy with tariffs against Europe must know, and now they know, that we are ready and capable of defending ourselves against this.”
In addition, Merz announced a special EU summit in February, where the main topic will be Europe’s competitiveness.
