European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, during her visit to Latvia, warned about the dangers posed by Russia to Europe and emphasized the importance of strengthening the EU’s eastern border.

“The risks your country and other Baltic states warned us about have unfortunately materialized. Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine has been going on for four years, Putin is a predator, and his representatives have for years targeted our societies with hybrid attacks, cyberattacks, and the use of migrants as a weapon is yet another example,” she said.
Von der Leyen called on member states to invest in defense, expand joint procurement, and increase readiness for new threats. She also emphasized the importance of strengthening Ukraine’s Armed Forces so that they become a “steel porcupine, indigestible for potential invaders.”
