📉 The right-wing conservative Swiss People’s Party (SVP) has proposed in the National Council to completely abolish the special protection status S for Ukrainians.
🗣 SVP faction leader Thomas Aeschi stated that part of Ukraine is now considered safe, and the need for mass temporary protection has disappeared. Those who need asylum must go through the standard refugee status procedure.
🏘 According to NZZ, Ukrainian refugees are creating additional pressure on Swiss cantons. As of May, there are over 69,000 people with S status in the country.
📈 Since the beginning of 2025, about 3,300 new applications have been received, and approximately 2,600 Ukrainians have returned home. Authorities are obliged to provide housing for these people along with other asylum seekers.
💼 Although the employment rate among Ukrainians is increasing, about two-thirds still lack financial independence.
