Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, one of the authors of the bill proposing a 500% tariff on Russian oil, stated that Trump’s envoys — Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner — should be replaced.

According to him, the current negotiators are “biased against Ukraine” and “side with Russia,” and their peace framework should be completely scrapped and restarted.

Blumenthal also criticized Trump’s demand for elections in Ukraine, saying that the U.S. president is merely “appeasing Putin.”

Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen stressed that Ukraine should not be pressured into signing an agreement before Christmas. According to her, Russia responds only to strong pressure from the U.S. and Europe, so Ukraine must be provided with more weapons and secondary sanctions must be imposed.

Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin added that he will support any proposal by President Volodymyr Zelensky that can bring Putin to the negotiating table. In his view, only one thing matters — what can actually stop the fighting, not the political preferences of individual American officials.
