President Donald Trump’s tough statements toward Russia are part of his negotiation tactics aimed at pressuring the Kremlin, reports The Washington Post, citing a senior White House official.

Trump supported Kyiv’s ambitions to regain control over its territories, surprising global politicians and inspiring Ukrainian leaders. His shift in favor of full territorial restoration for Ukraine reflects his frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions.
However, during the UN General Assembly, the U.S. president did not announce any significant changes in U.S. policy toward Kyiv. The meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Trump supports Ukraine’s right to reclaim all its territories, despite previously suggesting possible concessions.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized to the UN Security Council that the war must end at the negotiating table, not on the battlefield. This shows that Trump’s new rhetoric has not yet been translated into practical action.
According to WP sources, Trump has long been dissatisfied with Putin and believes that if the Kremlin does not want peace, the war may continue, while the U.S. will continue NATO weapons supplies. The U.S. president is also considering new sanctions against Russia.
“He’s tired of Putin,” noted the senior White House official.
