U.S. President Donald Trump, according to The Atlantic, expressed disappointment over the failed attempts to end the Russian-Ukrainian war. His administration believes that the conflict could have been resolved if both sides had shown more flexibility.

However, as the publication notes, Trump underestimated the depth of the confrontation and Vladimir Putin’s personal determination to destroy the independent Ukrainian state. This is not merely a dispute over territories or security guarantees — it is about the very existence of Ukraine as a sovereign nation.
During the latest diplomatic contacts, Trump proposed that Kyiv make partial territorial concessions and that Moscow agree to a “freeze” of the front line in exchange for easing sanctions and Ukraine’s withdrawal from its NATO aspirations. However, the Kremlin categorically rejected these conditions.
According to analysts, Trump failed to take into account that for Putin, a strong and independent Ukraine is a strategic threat; therefore, the Kremlin is prepared to endure significant losses to prevent its strengthening.
The White House does not rule out that Trump may try to regain diplomatic initiative by launching a global peace summit. The goal is to achieve a ceasefire along the current front line and force Moscow and Beijing to publicly state their positions on the future of peace.
