The administration of Donald Trump is planning a new attempt to revive the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia, involving not traditional diplomats but a close circle of trusted associates — Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner, CNN reports.

Witkoff and Kushner, who have no official status in the US government, will travel to Moscow to discuss the terms of a potential agreement. Both have previously participated in peace efforts between Israel and Hamas, which prompted Trump to involve them in the Ukraine-Russia issue.
In Europe and the US, this approach has been met with caution, especially after Witkoff’s talks with Putin’s advisor Yuri Ushakov, during which the businessman effectively advised the Kremlin on how to interact with Trump. European diplomats described the incident as “strange, but not unexpected.”
Despite the criticism, Trump insists that his special envoys’ task is to “sell” the idea of an agreement to Kyiv and Moscow. According to sources, Kyiv is willing to cooperate with Kushner, viewing his involvement as a personal signal of the president’s interest in reaching a deal.
Progress in the negotiations exists, but the agreement is still far from being finalized. Former diplomats warn that relying on such a narrow circle of advisers could lead to mistakes due to the lack of alternatives in decision-making.
