According to Ukraine’s permanent mission to the UN, January 2026 was the most destructive month for Ukraine’s energy sector due to large-scale Russian missile attacks, which left millions of people without electricity, heat, and water.
Ukrainian Permanent Representative Andriy Melnyk provided UNDP representatives with lists of the most urgently needed equipment and urged immediate decisions. This includes gas turbine cogeneration units, transformers, compressor stations, modular boiler plants, and other equipment for cities such as Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Kremenchuk, Lviv, Lutsk, Shostka, and others.
The largest projects include:
- Kremenchuk CHP – 54 MW gas turbine unit ($24 million)
- Kyiv – 25 MW cogeneration units ($20 million)
- Odesa – 40 MW ($20 million)
- Zaporizhzhia – 16.2 and 20 MW ($8 million)
- Mykolaiv – 9.8 MW ($5.5 million)
As of early 2026, UNDP has already procured equipment with a total capacity of 572.3 MW, significantly strengthening the energy resilience of Ukrainian cities.
