According to the UN, “credible information” confirms the cruel treatment by Russian military, special services, and associated formations in 50 official and 22 secret detention sites in Ukraine and Russia.
Documented cases include electric shocks to the genitals, beatings, burns, forced nudity, public humiliation, and psychological pressure aimed at obtaining confessions.
The UN Secretary-General expressed deep concern and did not rule out that as early as next year, Russia may be added to the list of countries suspected of sexual crimes.
Previous reports indicated that about 95% of Ukrainian captives were subjected to torture — from beatings and electric shocks to mock executions and sleep deprivation. International journalists have also documented at least 29 “special prisons” where not only military personnel but also civilians are held, with systematic use of torture involving the highest leadership of the Kremlin.
