According to him, the U.S. does not need Venezuelan oil, as it has sufficient domestic reserves. Washington’s main goal is to prevent the strengthening of influence by U.S. competitors in the region, particularly China, Russia, and Iran.
Rubio emphasized that Venezuela and its oil industry are considered within the broader context of Western Hemisphere regional security: “We will not allow the Western Hemisphere to become a base for the opponents or competitors of the United States.”
These statements come amid discussions about the possible involvement of American businesses in restoring Venezuelan infrastructure and investing in the oil sector.
