Polish Deputy Minister of Defense Cezary Tomczyk sharply criticized President Karol Nawrocki for his meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, calling it inappropriate and dangerous.

Tomczyk stated that such contacts demonstrate political instability and give the impression that the Polish president is becoming “Orbán’s vassal.” He recalled that several months ago Nawrocki had refused contacts with the Hungarian prime minister but later changed his position.
According to the deputy minister, Poland should not follow Hungary’s pro-Russian course, and it is Orbán who should align with Poland, not the other way around. The statements came amid tense relations in Europe over Hungary’s stance toward Russia.
Debates around the Polish leadership’s contacts with Budapest continue and are causing disputes within the country.
