Kenyan President William Ruto announced that he had a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during which they discussed the release of Kenyan citizens who were illegally recruited to fight in the war on Russia’s side.

“We expressed concern about young Kenyans who were unlawfully recruited to take part in the war in Ukraine and agreed to raise awareness about the dangers of such actions,” Ruto stated on social media platform X.
The Kenyan leader also said that he asked Zelenskyy to help secure the release of any Kenyan citizens currently detained in Ukraine, and that the Ukrainian president agreed to do so.
Additionally, Ruto mentioned the upcoming food summit that Ukraine plans to hold later in November, noting that both nations are interested in developing cooperation in security and food supply to Africa.
