German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for his policy toward Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia’s war against Ukraine, reports Bloomberg.

Pistorius stated that Trump’s actions negatively affected the course of the conflict, boosting Putin’s confidence and sending the wrong signals. “The American president influenced the course of the war, rolled out the red carpet, and welcomed Putin as a friend in Alaska, while simultaneously refusing military support to Ukraine,” the minister emphasized on Deutschlandfunk.
He also noted that Trump made a tactical mistake early in peace negotiations by ruling out Ukraine’s potential NATO membership.
Despite this, Pistorius promised to continue Germany’s military and financial support for Ukraine. The minister stressed that while there are few significant changes on the battlefield at present, the terror against civilians continues, making support for Ukraine critically important. He added that the current state of the Russian economy makes maintaining Ukraine’s support even more essential.
