⚠️ One diplomat noted the constant danger that Ukraine might fall victim to Trump’s short attention span. “putin knows this, and perhaps that’s why such a massive attack occurred in Ukraine last night,” the publication quotes him.
🚫 A further blow was the U.S. veto of a joint statement on Ukraine that was to be adopted at the summit. According to sources, Washington considered the statement too anti-russian, which could hinder negotiations with putin.
🤷♂️ German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Trump promised to attend the NATO summit, but many doubt that he actually will.
🤐 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi did not comment on Trump’s decision to skip the meeting, but with a serious tone emphasized: “We need our allies’ support to keep our soldiers strong until russia is ready for peace talks. We are ready for an unconditional ceasefire.”
💰 During the summit, Zelenskyi aimed to secure agreements on the purchase of air defense systems and weapons worth $50 billion, but Trump believes this would only prolong the war.
🛢️ The Ukrainian president also promoted an initiative to lower the price cap on russian oil from $60 to $45 per barrel—an idea supported by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
