The European Commission has decided to impose a complete ban on issuing multiple-entry Schengen visas to Russian citizens. According to the resolution, the move aims to reduce risks to the EU’s public policy and internal security.

The European Commission emphasized that after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the security situation in Europe has become the most dangerous in decades. “We are facing unprecedented cases of sabotage and espionage. From now on, Russian citizens applying for visas will be subject to stricter checks,” stated EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.
From now on, Russian citizens will no longer be able to obtain multiple-entry visas and will have to apply for a new one each time before traveling to EU countries.
However, the European Commission has left some exceptions: multiple-entry visas may still be issued to applicants with a “low-risk profile” — including independent journalists, human rights defenders, and civil society representatives who can prove their independence from the Russian regime.
