🗣️ This was stated by European Commission spokesperson Anita Hipper, as quoted by Ukrinform.
🕊️ “First of all, russia is not interested in peace. Ukraine wants peace, the EU wants peace. No one desires it more than Ukraine and the European Union. Secondly, we welcome any pressure — including from the U.S. — on russia using all necessary instruments to force it to agree to a ceasefire,” Hipper emphasized.
📞 She also noted that the EU maintains constant contact with international partners and coordinates its sanctions policy. At the same time, the European Commission representative declined to comment on possible EU steps in case of new U.S. sanctions following the deadline President Trump set for putin on August 8.
📦 “By the end of the week, the 18th package of EU sanctions against russia is expected to come into force. At the same time, we understand that economic restrictions require constant updates, especially due to attempts by sanctioned companies to circumvent them,” she explained.
⚙️ According to Hipper, public discussion of the EU’s next steps is premature at this stage. However, she emphasized that Brussels intends to continue increasing pressure on the russian federation by all available means.
🔒 “The EU intends to consistently increase pressure on russia — both through sanctions and other available tools,” the European Commission spokesperson concluded.
