EU ambassadors plan to approve a new, 20th sanctions package against Russia ahead of the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, reports the German publication Welt.

According to diplomats, the sanctions are aimed at increasing economic pressure on Moscow and punishing it for aggression against Ukraine. The restrictions will affect travel and asset freezes, with particular attention to individuals and organizations involved in the removal and ideological re-education of children.
Measures are also expected in the energy and banking sectors, along with attempts to close existing sanction evasion routes. Among the initiatives under consideration is a ban on the import of Russian uranium, which would limit the activities of Russia’s Federal Atomic Energy Agency (Rosatom).
The publication notes that these steps have long been supported by many EU countries; however, France and Belgium are showing some resistance, as they could replace uranium supplies with alternatives from South Africa, Australia, or Canada, although this would be more expensive.
