The European Union postponed the official presentation of its latest package of sanctions against Russia after U.S. President Donald Trump demanded tougher measures from Europe, media report.

The European Commission had planned to present the proposal on September 17, but pressure from Washington changed the schedule. Last week, the U.S. urged G7 allies to impose up to 100% tariffs on China and India due to their purchases of Russian oil, as well as to take other measures to pressure the Kremlin.
According to Bloomberg, citing a European diplomat, G7 representatives are currently working on a joint sanctions package and intend to finalize it within two weeks.
Earlier, media reported that the EU is considering restrictions on companies in India and China that assist Moscow in oil trade.
Over the weekend, Trump stated that he is ready to impose “serious” sanctions on Russian oil if European partners take similar steps. Despite several missed deadlines, the White House has not yet implemented new large-scale sanctions against Russia. At the same time, the U.S. president doubled tariffs on Indian oil to 50% and continues trade negotiations with Delhi and Beijing.
Experts note that Washington’s demands create a dilemma for the EU: tariffs on India and China are painful for the bloc’s economies, particularly Germany, which relies heavily on these markets. At the same time, some U.S. demands already align with Brussels’ plans — notably, the phasing out of Russian energy resources.
