The European Union, during the period of Russia’s full-scale invasion, has spent 124 billion euros more on Russian goods and energy resources than on supporting Ukraine. This was reported by “European Pravda,” citing Sweden’s Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard.

She emphasized that assistance to Ukraine from European states remains insufficient, while economic support for Russia through imports is excessively high. According to her data, since February 2022, Europe has provided Ukraine with 187 billion euros, while imports of Russian oil and gas amounted to 201 billion euros.
If other categories of Russian imports are included, the total reaches 311 billion euros. This means the net balance is minus 124 billion euros in Russia’s favor. Stenergard called this a “disgrace” for the EU.
The minister also commented on potential efforts to end the war. In her view, any peace negotiations will only be effective if support for Ukraine is strengthened and pressure on Russia increases. She added that a “very good start” would be the use of frozen Russian assets for Ukraine’s benefit.
In Washington, President Donald Trump’s administration has previously urged European allies to increase their contributions to supporting Kyiv and reduce critical dependence on Russian energy resources.
