🗣️ The decision was announced on the EU Council website and confirmed by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. “We will continue to pressure moscow to end the war in Ukraine. Each sanction weakens russia’s ability to wage war,” she wrote on social platform X.
📆 Sectoral sanctions were first introduced in 2014 and have been significantly strengthened since 2022 in response to russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine.
📉 The restrictions cover areas such as trade, finance, energy, technology, dual-use goods, transport, industry, and luxury items.
🚫 In particular, they include a ban on importing russian oil, disconnecting several banks from SWIFT, blocking Kremlin media licenses in the EU, and implementing mechanisms to prevent sanction evasion.
