📅 Temporary protection, activated by the EU on March 4, 2022, grants Ukrainians the right to legally live, work, study, and receive social assistance in EU countries without the need to apply for asylum.
👥 As of mid-2025, over 4.3 million Ukrainians benefit from this protection, marking one of the largest forced displacement waves in Europe’s history.
🏠 The protection also includes guarantees in housing, integration, access to language courses, and coordination among member states to avoid duplication of statuses.
📚 EU countries commit to coordinating integration policies for displaced persons, ensuring access to education, employment, and social support.
🛡️ The decision emphasizes that returning Ukrainians home is currently impossible due to the unstable security situation, so temporary protection will remain in effect until conditions improve.
