According to the Prime Minister, the relationship between London and Beijing has been “sometimes hot, sometimes cold,” and now is the time to move away from the simplified approach of a “golden age or ice age.” Starmer stressed that it is possible to cooperate and trade with China while protecting national interests.
“Protecting our security is non-negotiable – it is our primary duty. At the same time, by ensuring security, we create opportunities for cooperation in other areas,” he added.
