The Spanish gas company Enagas has announced its readiness to completely stop using Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) by 2027 and replace it with supplies from the United States.

This was reported by the company’s CEO, Arturo Gonzalo, in an interview with Reuters. According to him, Enagas’ infrastructure already allows operations without Russian gas, and its certification system carefully tracks the origin of every LNG shipment passing through Spanish terminals.
The European Union, as part of its common energy strategy, is discussing a gradual phase-out of Russian oil and gas imports by January 2028. A ban on Russian LNG from 2027 is also being considered to reduce the Kremlin’s revenues that fund the war against Ukraine.
Enagas emphasizes that the LNG market remains flexible enough to compensate for the loss of Russian volumes through American suppliers. Major exporters delivering more than 5 billion cubic meters of gas per year will be able to quickly adapt to new conditions and ensure Europe’s energy stability.
