💬 On July 9, EU ambassadors failed to agree on the 18th sanctions package against russia. Slovakia was the main blocker, despite previously “productive talks” with the European Commission regarding energy independence under the REPower EU program.

😠 Sources report growing frustration among delegations, as the blockade comes after russia’s largest missile strike on Ukraine since the start of the war.

🛢️ Additional tension is caused by the debate over maintaining the price cap on Russian oil. At least Greece, Cyprus, and Malta oppose this, due to strong maritime and oil interests.
