Moșteanu stated that he does not want the scandal surrounding his biography to distract the leadership of Romania and Europe at a time when the region is under pressure from Russia.
He emphasized that the mistakes were made many years ago, and that the priority now is to focus on national security.
The scandal erupted after a journalistic investigation showed that in his first official résumé, the minister claimed to have graduated from the Bucharest Athenaeum University, although he had never studied there. Moșteanu explained that it was an “unintentional mistake” that remained in the résumé he had hastily compiled in 2016 using an online template.
The document also listed incomplete studies at the Automation Faculty of the Bucharest Polytechnic University. The minister clarified that he left his studies for work, but later obtained higher education and, in 2015, earned a master’s degree in politics, philosophy, and economics.
