NATO forces shot down Russian drones that violated Polish airspace for the first time, The Telegraph reports. The incident demonstrated Putin’s willingness to take risks by testing the alliance’s response to the escalation of the war against Ukraine and the West.

Poland received warnings of a massive Russian drone attack and raised its readiness level. On the night of September 10, two F-35s from the Netherlands, two Polish F-16s, and several helicopters tracked the drones. The first “Shaheds” crossed the border around 11:30 PM, and the last was shot down at 6:45 AM.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk invoked Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty for consultations with allies and urged not to fall for provocations. NATO assessed the drone elimination operation as flawless, emphasizing that the incident does not constitute an attack on the alliance and that allies remain composed.
As usual, the Kremlin resorted to disinformation and delaying tactics, while European leaders hope that US President Donald Trump will strengthen sanctions and support Kyiv. Trump’s reaction to the incident was ambiguous; he only remarked, “Russia is violating Polish airspace with its drones? Wow!”
