Russia has not abandoned its plans to seize the southern and eastern regions of Ukraine, in particular Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Odesa. This was stated by Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Brigadier General Pavlo Palisa.

According to him, Moscow also continues to seek the full occupation of Donetsk region and the creation of a buffer zone in Kharkiv and Sumy regions. In addition, Russian troops are trying to advance as far as possible in Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions in order to later lay claim to major southern cities.
At the same time, Palisa emphasized that the enemy currently has no real capability to implement these plans in the next six months. According to his assessment, in 2025 Russian troops occupied less than 1% of Ukraine’s territory, suffering losses of more than 450,000 soldiers.
He noted that to capture another approximately 6,000 square kilometers in Donetsk region, Russia would need about a year and a half and additional resources comparable to the current grouping of the Russian Armed Forces on the territory of Ukraine.
According to Palisa, the implementation of such plans will be extremely difficult for the Russian army and significantly slower than the Kremlin expects.
