The fifth President of Ukraine and leader of “European Solidarity,” Petro Poroshenko, stated during a live broadcast on the American TV channel MS NOW that Ukraine will not agree to any Russian demands and will insist on a full ceasefire before the start of any negotiations. He emphasized that the protection of territorial integrity, national identity, and the combat capability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine remain “red lines.”

Poroshenko stressed that Ukrainians desire peace more than any nation in the world, but they will not surrender or accept Kremlin ultimatums. He reminded that the United States plays a key role in the international process and must uphold the principle of “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.”
The fifth President clearly stated that Ukraine will never agree to limits on the size or functionality of its Armed Forces, since the army is what ensures the security of Ukraine and Europe. He also emphasized that Moscow will not be allowed to destroy Ukrainian identity or turn the country into a colony.
Poroshenko recalled his own experience with the difficult negotiations of 2015 and stated that the first condition of any process must be an immediate, unconditional, and complete ceasefire. He called on Russia to stop killing civilians and end the war, after which the parties will be able to discuss details.
According to him, the Kremlin seeks to drag out negotiations, conduct war in parallel, and shift blame onto Kyiv. But Ukraine will not allow Russia to use this strategy and is ready for effective negotiations only after the fighting stops.
Poroshenko also called the current moment “a narrow but realistic window of opportunity,” as U.S. President Donald Trump has introduced effective secondary sanctions against Russian oil. This, he said, greatly restricts the financing of Russia’s war. He emphasized that Ukraine’s victory depends on the unity of the U.S., the EU, and NATO together with Kyiv.
