Petro Poroshenko, in an interview with well-known Czech journalist and writer Ondřej Kundra, stated that the events in Venezuela could significantly reduce Russia’s revenues for continuing the war in Ukraine.

“Ukraine has never recognized the results of the 2024 presidential elections in Venezuela, which were falsified. We have experience with two revolutions related to election fraud, including the Orange Revolution. Of course, the Russian Federation began referring to international law, claiming it as an act of terrorism. This is cynical. It is Russia itself that is undermining international law and global security. One of the permanent members of the UN Security Council is an aggressor and must pay the price for it,” Poroshenko reminded.
“This can have a major impact on the further course of the war. When you ask me about the impact of the turbulent events in Venezuela on Ukraine, I see positive consequences. Venezuela and its oil industry have so far supported Russia and other terrorist regimes. President Maduro supplied significant amounts of oil to the Russian company Rosneft and its CEO Sechin through corrupt deals. Venezuelan oil belongs to the Venezuelan people and American companies investing in its processing. Instead, it was Russia that received the money, oil, and influence. That is no longer the case: American intervention in Venezuela has disrupted these flows. The same applies to Cuba.
As we speak, American forces have also intercepted at sea two Russian tankers from the so-called ‘shadow fleet,’ which were heading to Cuba with Venezuelan oil. This can definitely change the situation in the raw materials market. Russia will have less oil and, consequently, less revenue from its sale. Right now, we are observing a drop in the price of Russian oil. Less oil money means Putin will not have enough funds to finance the war. This could bring us closer to peace,” explained the fifth President.
Regarding Maduro’s future, Poroshenko noted that he will have the opportunity to defend himself in court.
“Maduro will have the chance to defend himself in an independent court in a democratic country. He will be able to present his position regarding the charges of drug trafficking, terrorism, and extrajudicial killings — and the global media will see this. The important thing is that the court is independent, open, and transparent, and I have no reason to doubt that it will be so,” said Petro Poroshenko.
