The head of the Catholic Church emphasized that pride often becomes a source of conflicts, and Ukraine is one of the first victims of this logic. He stressed the importance of dialogue guided by a sincere desire to achieve peace and called on the international community to seek fair and lasting solutions to protect the most vulnerable and restore hope to the affected population.
The Pope also highlighted the importance of respecting international humanitarian law and condemned the destruction of hospitals, housing, and critical infrastructure, as well as the involvement of civilians in hostilities.
“The protection of the principle of inviolability of human dignity and the sanctity of life always outweighs any national interests,” Leo XIV emphasized, reaffirming the Holy See’s readiness to support any peacekeeping initiatives.
