Slovakia has officially stopped emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine in response to the halt of Russian oil transit through the “Druzhba” pipeline, announced the country’s Prime Minister Robert Fico. He emphasized that if oil transit is not restored, any assistance from Ukraine in stabilizing the energy network from Slovakia will cease.

At the same time, Poland and Romania have stated their readiness to promptly take over the necessary electricity supply for the Ukrainian energy system if other countries refuse. Member of the European Parliament Tomas Zdechovsky confirmed that the governments of both countries have already informed European partners of their readiness.
Fico added that Slovakia’s decision does not violate international obligations, and the volume of emergency electricity supplies in January 2026 was twice as high as for the entire 2025. He also threatened to review Slovakia’s position on supporting Ukraine’s EU membership if Russian oil transit is not restored.
In Brussels, it was emphasized that the stability of the Ukrainian energy system is a shared interest of Europe, especially against the backdrop of the war and ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure.
