According to Politico, Trump’s key priority is ending the fighting, not the specific content of the agreement. Europe and Ukraine were surprised by the points of the 28-point proposal, particularly regarding the Donbas, which the plan suggested handing over to Russian control.
The White House emphasized that Trump has no “red lines” — his priority is to reach an agreement between the parties and end the war. “The main goal is peace. Stop the fighting and prevent human losses. That is what he wants above all,” a senior official said on condition of anonymity.
He added that Trump is ready to sign any agreement that quickly ends the conflict and is accepted by both sides.
Politico notes that the U.S. president’s desire to accelerate the conclusion of an agreement explains the constant changes in his plan — from ultimatums to Ukraine to statements that the initiative is not final. Because of this, several American officials are conducting negotiations simultaneously.
