Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that oil prices are rising sharply, in particular due to the situation surrounding Ukraine. In his view, the European Union should review and suspend all sanctions imposed on Russian energy resources in response.

According to Orban, the increase in crude oil prices is caused by several factors at once — the Ukrainian “oil blockade” and the war in the Middle East. He claims that these processes are already affecting energy prices in Hungary.
Orban also said that the Ukrainian authorities’ decision to restrict oil transit poses a serious threat not only to Hungary and Slovakia but to the entire European Union.
He stated that two measures are needed to address this situation. The first is for the EU to review its sanctions policy regarding Russian energy resources. Orban noted that he has already sent a corresponding initiative in a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The second step, according to the Hungarian prime minister, should be to prevent a sharp rise in fuel prices within the country. To this end, he convened an emergency government meeting to discuss the situation with gasoline and diesel prices.
At the same time, Orban continues to block the allocation of a €90 billion European Union loan to Ukraine. The Hungarian prime minister accuses Kyiv of deliberately blocking the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline, which was previously damaged as a result of Russian attacks.
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on the aid blockade, stated that if the EU loan of €90 billion for Ukraine continues to be blocked, the “address of this person” could be handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
