European countries need to actively expand weapons production, as their pace significantly lags behind Russia’s. Despite this year’s ambitious spending standards, they are insufficient to ensure security.

This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during a speech at the IISS Prague Defence Summit, reports The Guardian.
“Money alone does not guarantee security. Real capabilities are needed: firepower, heavy equipment, and advanced technologies. The defense industry across the Alliance must deliver this faster than ever, both in Europe and the U.S. Currently, production is insufficient,” Rutte said.
He added that positive changes are already noticeable: in particular, the pace of ammunition production has increased, and reserves are gradually being built up.
“We are gradually replenishing stocks and closing the production gap with Russia,” he emphasized, thanking the Czech Republic for significant support in defense supplies.
According to Rutte, Russia and China are investing huge sums in army modernization. This weaponry is already being used against Ukraine, and European countries must anticipate future threats and act proactively.
“This trend will not change in the near future. Russia will continue to be a destabilizing and confrontational force in Europe and the world,” Rutte stressed.
He called on Europe not to be naive and to decisively strengthen defense to ensure the continent’s security.
