🇺🇸 Following the meeting, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that he had received clear signals from U.S. Secretary of State Rubio and allies: Canada and Europe must take more responsibility for collective security.
🗣️ “We have reached a certain consensus. The Alliance is more important than ever, and we are united,” Rutte emphasized during a press conference.
⚠️ According to him, it’s not just about political declarations but also about practical steps, as allies are facing a direct threat from russia. NATO is in full combat readiness to deter and prevent potential aggression.
💶 The Secretary General also noted that Alliance members are working on simplifying bureaucratic procedures to enable prompt investment in defense and to more rapidly meet urgent needs.
🕊️ In response to a question about the vision of a “lasting peace” for Ukraine, Rutte stated that this means a situation in which putin would never again dare to try to seize even one square kilometer of Ukrainian territory.
🎯 Rutte also confirmed the efforts of the Coalition of the Willing, led by France and the United Kingdom, and announced that NATO has committed to providing Kyiv with €20 billion in aid during the first three months of 2025.
🕰️ Recall that the meeting began at 10:00 local time and focused on security issues, with the participation of European diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas.
📘 Rutte paid special attention to the new EU White Paper on defense readiness through 2030, calling it a significant milestone. According to him, close cooperation between NATO and the EU in the field of security should become the new normal.
🌍 The Secretary General emphasized that the foundation of security remains the unwavering commitment of the United States to a strong transatlantic Alliance and reminded of plans to make NATO “stronger, fairer, and deadlier” during the upcoming summit in The Hague.
