According to the publication, Europe fears that this body could replace the United Nations as the main international platform for resolving global conflicts. Additional concerns were raised by the invitation of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to the Peace Council.
FT sources note that the participation of the leader of an aggressor state calls into question the initiative’s legitimacy and its potential effectiveness.
Donald Trump announced the creation of the Peace Council on January 16. Its executive committee includes U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and the president’s son-in-law Jared.
