He emphasized that Russia has exposed weaknesses in European defense, and the EU needs modern equipment to detect, track, and destroy enemy drones.
“There are significant gaps in EU defense. We lack the necessary equipment to track and eliminate drones,” Budrys noted.
According to him, Ukraine destroys enemy drones daily and already has integrated systems to counter them. Lithuania proposes deploying these technologies on the frontlines together with Ukrainian specialists to maximize their effectiveness.
The diplomat also stressed the importance of NATO unity and sending a clear signal to Russia that further escalation will provoke a decisive response from the Alliance.
Budrys supported the U.S. position on strengthening sanctions pressure on Moscow and criticized European countries that continue to import Russian gas:
“The fact that some countries increased LNG imports from Russia last year is not only shameful but also dangerous, as it supports Russia’s military machine.”
The minister emphasized that coordination with the U.S. is key to effective sanctions and a unified European security strategy.
